Macmazza and Griggio: Production without compromise
Speed, precision and space: these are the variables that today are truly reshaping efficiency in the factory, concrete conditions that every company has to deal with every day, between energy costs, labor and the need to maintain high quality. In this scenario, the promise of “doing everything with a single machine” has attracted many, but it has not always delivered on what it promised.
It is from this operational reality that a more concrete reflection arises: to return to specialized solutions that can talk to each other without sacrificing performance.
In this direction is the proposal developed by Macmazza and Griggio, who bring back to the center the concept of integration between panel sizing and through-hole drilling, reinterpreting it in a current key, between automation and Industry 4.0 logics. A project that will be the focus of their participation in Xylexpo 2026.
And the proposed solution starts from a precise premise: separating critical machining to optimize it as much as possible, and then integrating it intelligently. Not an “all-in-one” machine, then, but two separate centers – a panel saw and a through-hole boring machine – designed to talk to each other.
The heart of the system is precisely this integration. The panel saw does all the cutting, operating with dedicated tools, reduced thicknesses, and advanced optimization algorithms that minimize scrap and increase accuracy. The cnc through-hole boring machine, on the other hand, comes into play on an already optimized flow, performing machining operations on multiple faces of the panel, including operations that are difficult to handle with other technologies, such as drilling along the ribs or undercutting with high hole cleaning.


A process in which, the company explains, each step is specialized, with greater structural rigidity, better workpiece clamping, and consistent quality even on large volumes. Not only that, separate handling allows parallel working, reducing downtime and significantly increasing daily productivity.
Digitally, the two machines can be coordinated by a single job management system, linked to existing company software, without proprietary constraints. This-according to the designers-means freedom in the choice of management systems, direct access to production data and operational continuity also in the future. Labels, automatically generated and synchronized, also keep flows between cutting and drilling aligned, reducing errors and management time.
Another distinguishing feature is the organization of work in the factory. The two machines side by side allow a single operator to handle both stages in certain contexts and conditions.
Finally, the application aspect should not be overlooked: the solution is not limited to wood, but also extends to plastic, aluminum, and composite materials.
